The assemblies are available with a red washable gauze element or a white pleated paper element to offer the look you have in mind. This is on a dyno, under hood conditions are probably worse.

I had to fabricate a drop base for my cold air intake and ended up then having to fabricate the lid to allow for more space (differnt shape) to let the air get into the carb. Here is a link to an engine master episode on air cleaner testing.

It's because the filter media is much more restrictive than the open air space on the inside of the air cleaner box, even if it's only 1 tall. Easy test for anyone with this problem. Thanks for the explanation, that makes sense.

Air cleaner drop base #s2195b. Dropped base will negate the performance gain from changing to efi system. There was a nice video posted earlier in the year in the v8 section on air cleaners.

My 67 Camaro Drag Car Ran 10.70'S @ 127Mph With A 355 And Had A Moroso Drop Base Type Air Filter On It With A Purolator 2 1/2 Filter Element From The Local Parts Store.

Purs, as far as i know, the drop base air cleaners actually flow better. Dont want to put on a hoodscoop and i just barely have. They smooth the air flow into the carb.

If You're Getting The Lid Too Close To The Air Horn You Will Be Choking Off Air Flow.

If running a holley carb you need 3/4 to 1 clearance between the bowl vents and bottom of air cleaner lid. If clearance is below this you will end up with driveability issues. I have 408sbc in my vega.
